Public Relations Student Society of America - Cal State LA Chapter
Executive Summary
PRSSA is the Public Relations Student Society of America, the student division of the national organization PRSA (Public Relations Society of America). At Cal State LA, I served as Treasurer (February 2023 - May 2023) and President (May 2023 - May 2024). As President of PRSSA at Cal State LA, I successfully curated in-person and remote events welcoming our members and the Communication Studies Department. These events included Guest Speaker events, networking opportunities, and Resume and CV workshops. I also handled our Chapter's social media handles, specializing in content creation and marketing.
As the President, my responsibilities included being the liaison for PRSSA Cal State LA Chapter, enforcing PRSSA National guidelines and objectives, contributing to the well-being of the Chapter, establishing and maintaining communication with Chapter advisors such as faculty and professional advisors, Advising members about Chapter activities, overseeing all members of the PRSSA executive board and all committee members, delegating responsibilities for all Executive Board members, directing overall Chapter operations, assisting the Treasurer in collecting dues and providing an accurate dues' form to be sent to PRSSA Headquarters, recommending and establishing goals and objectives for the Chapter with the approval of membership, faculty, and professional advisors, curating materials for general assembly and executive meetings, assisting with proofreading and copyediting for all communications, and staying in contact with the PRSSA National representative.

Communication Encompassed
Communication Encompassed was a collaborative event created by PRSSA and CSULA Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) that was open to the entire Cal State LA community, focusing on Communication majors. The event began with our peers from various clubs at Cal State LA introducing their clubs and providing information on how to join. Professionals (all alums!) from all four areas of Communication offered at Cal State LA: Mass, Organizational, Social Justice, and Health advised attendees. We had additional speakers who advised on more concentrated areas of the Communication field, including Social Media and Academia.
Our inspiring panelists shared their incredible stories on working their way up from university to their current roles, which included entrepreneurship, advertising, academia, Shark Tank, brand management, PR, social media, advertising, and much more at notable companies, including Disney/Hulu, YouTube, and Peacock Theater. After the panelists concluded their presentations, a Q&A was held by Kristin, president of LPH, and me at the end of the event, where panelists answered more tailored questions, including advice on networking, resumes, and job searching. Attendees had the opportunity to network with the panelists once the event concluded.
Resume and CV Building Event
The Resume and CV Building Event was a collaborative event created by PRSSA and CSULA Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) that was open to all Communication majors. Communication majors were advised by PR professionals, advertising professionals, and professors on how to ace interviews, refine their job searches, and craft their resumes and CVs. Headshots were taken and edited for students to put on their LinkedIn profiles free of charge.
The Professional Guest Speaker Series and PRSSA Graphics
The Professional Guest Speaker Series was a keynote speaker series that I created to allow the students of PRSSA and Communication Studies majors at Cal State LA to connect with and learn from professionals in marketing, advertising, and PR. Professionals would typically elaborate on how they started, landed in their career path, and where they are now. The speakers would also answer students' questions, including advice on interviews, resumes, and networking. I found, connected with, and invited these speakers to our series.
